Surprisingly Cynical Crossword
We’re launching our very own record label to bring you this long-lost nugget of Swedish indie guitar pop. The missing link between Beagle and Metro Jets, Favorita were all set to take over the Swedish indie scene when their label went bust and the band imploded. But this record is too good for the story to end there, so, ten years later, we’re releasing it as a beautiful digipack CD with seven bonus tracks, both the bands videos, all the lyrics, sleeve notes and never-before-seen pictures! Click here to read more. ***This is a pre-sale – album ships on release day, October 24th***

Disaster Strikes Again
Another gem from Fruit Records, what could be better than a Malaysian band than sounds as fresh as if it just stepped off the bus from Malmo! Lead by singer Warren Chan whos hushed voice is right at home with the pop oriented but rather somber mein of this nice album. On top of it, it has some of the most ingenious packaging I ever saw. Yep, that's real astro turf on the cover.....

Coming Home
This is the debut solo album from Ola Framby, the songwriting force behind legendary Swedish band The Girls and the frontman of 60's beat revivalists The Men. It's a solo album in the truest sense of the word, written, performed, recorded and mixed entirely by Ola at his own studio, this collection of 12 tunes carves a path close to his classic Girls album "It's Not For The Oskon". Layered vocal harmonies (often reminiscent of the best mid-70's Queen albums) spring out from every turn. It's amazing that this is just one guy in the studio as it really sounds like a band rocking out together! Any fan of the Girls or of quirky well-crafted pop music by bands like Eggstone or The Mopeds will find this album to be a real treasure. Reminds Spinguy of Foetus.

Starfriend
With their mix of influences that range from Johnny Cash, Lenny Kravitz, Paul Simon and Paul McCartney, Freewheel's sophistication of upbeat folk and pop surfaced after the break-up of their former band The Excuse. Freewheel debuted this sound on a series of singles that were all released in 1997. This includes the "Tribute to Lester Young," "Starfriend" and "Sweet Swedish Winter." All these tunes are on this, their stunning 1998 debut CD on Vibrafon records. This edition also contains an enhanced portion with the two charmingly low-budget videos they made to promote the album. Great stuff.

Don't Wanna Bring You Down
Popium frontman Frank Hammersland is a prolific artist, churning out solo albums almost as often as Popium records. This new effort is a real delight. It’s a Summer album really...easy breezy guitar-based pop, country tinged (thanks to some superb pedal steel) and a cast of some of Norway’s finest players including Thom Hell and Sgt. Petter. Features a great cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Night Ride Home”.

Saints' Everlasting Rest
Without question this band was not only on the forefront of the swedish scene from it's beginning but it remains one of it's all time best. This album brings together classic cuts from their many albums into one simply terrific album. Possibly the best "pure" guitar pop album ever.

Hår Kommer Solen
This is the first band to be signed to the Labrador label that actually sings in Swedish. While some of the slower tracks are reminiscent of Sigur Ros the harder tracks bring to mind images of the Velvet Underground as well as a few other 60's and 70's influences. And the vocals? Hell, who knew what Liz Frazer ever sang in the Cocteau twins, and it didn't matter. And if all that wasn't enough this is signed by Christopher Sander! By the way, Ingenting, means "nothing" in Swedish.

By Your Side
The sophomore follow up is no let down from this brilliant swedish band. Tobias still has the same great inflection in his voice, the music is as quirky and catchy as ever with bright horn accents and infectious melodies and it seems they can do no wrong. A very enjoyable romp sure to bring to mind a sunny swedish day.

Blue On Pink
What happens when a Japanese girl sings Swedish pop? Recorded in the same period of the same year (98) in the same studio (Tambourine) with the same producer (Tore Johansson) as the Cardigans "Gran Turismo" it is no surprise this album has a very similar feel to that work and band. Imagine the Cardigans best work with a quirky twist and a Japanese accent and you've got it. (the opening riff on the sample clip here is lifted right from Gran Turismo as well) A real treat.
