Spinguy! You'll be sorry you did that

For as long as I can remember I did not fit in musically. Every kid likes music of course, but you do not really begin to descriminate until about age 10. At that time, roughly the mid 70's, I was miserable with everything I heard. I hated all of it. So instead of taking what I was given like eveybody else does, I held out. I did not know what I wanted, nor when or if it would even come but I was going to ride it out until it did. The one thing I was sure of was that I'd know it when I heard it and until then I would do without.

So it was that sometime around 1977-78 I started hearing some of the bands coming out of the UK. I wasn't really thrown by punk at first, but some I liked. However, one day while listening to a college station I heard Joy Division and the Cure. I knew my time had arrived, and I have not looked back since.

I spent as much of the 80's buying what I could, when I could. I also co-wrote a pulp "zine" in the 80's and later electronically on Epinions. I did this because it has always bothered me that what to me is the best music in the world goes largely un-noticed by the entire world. I finally got so perturbed I started my own site and undertook the burden of writing and creating it essentially alone.

As to music, I don't seem to have a particular genre within "indie" I like, as I bought everything from Prefab Sprout to Nitzer Ebb to Madness to the June Brides. The only criteria is it has to be good. I think I should point out now that I generally dislike groups from the corporate "alternative" scene to a degree that can't be put into words. It's not only generally awful and sounds alike, there truly are far more deserving "alternatives".

Most of the music reviewed on this site was purchased by me or T-Baby below, so you may find yourself looking for a review of something perhaps popular and not see it. That's because we just didn't want it. Sorry, I can't afford to buy stuff I don't want just to review it. Still, the site is fairly well packed and if you know of something you think I'd love and it should be on the site please let us know. If we all do our part this can be a great resource. And if you really need to know more about me, click on my alter ego above. (culled from the cover of an LP by Jesus Couldn't Drum, and finally used with permission)

I'm the angriest man alive

T-Baby

T-Baby is the oldest and best friend I have, even though he is often a prick, (that stems from him being so angry all the time) and he's the closest person in musical tastes I've ever known aside from Mr Muzak, who we won't get into here. The trouble is T has a miserable life (mostly in outlook I believe), and if the pic is any indication it started early. (Yes, he still looks like that most of the time)

I still chide him unmercifully for 2 things: The first was buying an LP by "the Elvis Brothers" (click the pic of T-baby for the cover and a clip, you have to see it to appreciate it) and the second was when I ran to his house after buying New Orders "Lowlife" LP.

We both bought it the day it came out and I went nuts over it, ran to his house and he opened the door and stood there while I panted and said "Well...?" He gives me that look and says flatly, "It suts" (suts=sucks) I called him several unflattering terms shortly thereafter I am quite sure.

He has long since repented both of those decisions however. I wanted him to post commentary after my reviews when he differs in opinion (which truly is rare) or better yet write his own, but that is akin to getting blood from a stone and will not happen. However we are deeply indebted to him because he buys and buys and buys and truly, if it wasn't for him this site simply might not exist. (we're still unsure if he's actually trying to "flip the bird" in this pic)
