What the hell's a favicon anyway?
Favicon?

In internet explorer 5.0 there is a function called a favicon. Any site which has a bitmap file listed on it as favicon.ico will be used in your explorer window and favorites files when you bookmark it, and the icon should appear in the address window as well.

However, for some reason (known only to Bill Gates I suppose) on many peoples computers windows will not always access this icon, nor save it. If it does appear initially, often on subsequent visits it will not display itself, but it may choose to show itself again at some later date of it's own unexpectedly. On top of that, it doesn't seem to be working off my sites server, as it's asking if you wish to download it. There are ways around all this befuddled confusion however.

Changing icons for your desktop is fun and if you have a fair number of sites bookmarked (Ctrl+D) it helps to have those icons there as it makes it much easier to look thru them and pick out the site you're looking for.

The favicon for this site can be downloaded in zip form here. Save it to your documents first. Then go into my computer/C/Program files and create a new folder. (click file/new/folder) Call it Icons. Then go back and unzip this sites icon into it.

Then while still in your documents click on favorites and if you've bookmarked this sites main page it should be there. Right click on it, then click properties. Click change icon, browse to it (c/program files/icons) highlight the Spinguy and set him as the icon. Once it's in a folder on your hard drive it will always be displayed. You can do this for every site you visit often. If you're not sure if the site has an icon, just type in favicon.ico after the sites main URL and see what happens. (such as http://www.joespizza.com/favicon.ico) If an icon comes up, just right click on it and save it to your icon file and assign it manually as described above.

If you need a program to create your own icons (which is very easy to do) just write me, I have a great freeware one all zipped and ready to go.

Have fun!
